Moffat launches mayoralty
campaign
June
17, 2004, St.
Albert - This
morning Lynda Moffat announced she
wants to be St. Albert's next
mayor saying, "Over the past
several months, so
many people have
asked me to run for Mayor. The support
has been overwhelming and it has
continued to build. There is so much
I want to do, and can do, to repair
relationships, restore pride and
get things done for the betterment
of all of the citizens of St. Albert."
In making
her announcement, Moffat described
her vision for the community as
being "anchored in the superb
quality of life here
that we all value. I see our City
as a thriving, independent, and
sustainable community that embraces
the opportunities of the future
and that cherishes our youth and
respects our seniors. I see St.
Albert as a community where residents
receive exceptional value for the
taxes they pay, a community that
works in harmony with its neighbors
and its senior levels
of government, a community that
is respected as a leader and a good
neighbour in the region. I see our
City as a community that understands
and cares about the needs of St.
Albert businesses and creates the
environment needed for strong economic
growth, a community that recognizes
St. Albert municipal employees as
being second to none with respect
to their qualifications and their
commitment and that capitalizes
on those strengths. Above all, I
see our City as a
community where residents are all
proud to call St. Albert home."
Moffat
was introduced by St. Albert businesswoman
Jackie Heitzman, co-owner of SPT
Drilling, a foundation, geotechnical
and environmental
drilling company, who is serving
as Finance Chair for Moffat's campaign. Heitzman
is a 26-year St. Albert resident,
a member of the St. Albert Economic
Development Advisory Committee and
a former President of the St. Albert
Chamber of Commerce. She reminded
the audience that Moffat is "a
successful business person and a
former President of the St. Albert
Chamber of Commerce." Heitzman
described Moffat as being "truly
a class act. She's honest,
sincere, and a woman
of integrity. She works hard and
she works smart. She is firm, but
fair. Lynda listens and hears with
an open mind, has strong leadership
skills coupled with remarkable abilities
to collaborate and build enduring
win-win relationships."
Moffat's campaign slogan
is "Your Positive Choice - Moffat
for Mayor."
