Moffat vows to renew
pride in St. Albert,
guided by CityPlan
July
22, 2004, St. Albert - Mayoralty
candidate Lynda Moffat had declared
her commitment to renewing residents' pride
in St. Albert, guided by CityPlan. "As
citizens of St. Albert, we've
long prided ourselves in being Alberta's
finest city," said Moffat. "We
need to renew that
pride and our efforts
to do so should be guided by CityPlan.
Our shared vision of St. Albert asan
inclusive, family-oriented
community is as valid
today as it was when CityPlan was
adopted by the last Council."
On May 23, 2000, City Council provided
final reading to Bylaw 4/2000, being
a bylaw to adopt a new Municipal
Development Plan.The CityPlan Vision
statement is: St. Albert is an inclusive,
family-oriented community that values
its natural, cultural, historical
and recreational amenities. Our community
secures the safety and well-being
of its people through controlled
growth, innovation and dynamic leadership.
Moffat
believes that St. Albert now needs
strong leadership to refocus efforts
on responding to issues quickly
and consistently. "To realize
our vision, we need timely decisions - decisions
based on a consistent set of values
and principles so that our direction
is clear and sustained," said
Moffat. "Council decisions
should be guided
by appropriate consultation and our
shared values of environmental and
fiscal responsibility. Once decisions
are made, they must
be implemented in a consistent and
timely manner."
"As
your mayor, I will provide the strong
leadership we need to be a city
that enjoys a positive reputation
near and far, a city with healthy
mutually beneficial relationships
with our federal
and provincial government and our
neighbours, a city that retains
its sense of community as it grows.
With my strong leadership,
we will once again become a community
where residents are all proud to
call St. Albert home."
Moffat's commitment to CityPlan
is longstanding. Before being elected
to Council, she was a member of the
CityPlan Advisory Committee - a
volunteer committee of St. Albert
residents responsible for public
input into the CityPlan process.
CityPlan was intended to guide St.
Albert's physical, social and
economic development
to the year 2014.
Moffat's campaign slogan
is "Your Positive Choice - Moffat
for Mayor."
