It's time
to renew our pride in St. Albert
As citizens
of St. Albert,
we've
long prided ourselves
in being Alberta's
finest city. We need
to renew that pride
and our efforts to
do so should be guided
by CityPlan - our
Municipal Development
Plan. Our shared
vision of St. Albert
as an inclusive, family-oriented
community is as valid today as it
was when the last Council adopted
CityPlan.
As your mayor, I will provide the
strong leadership we need to be a
city that responds to issues quickly
through collaboration and innovation,
a city that enjoys a positive reputation
near and far, a city with healthy
mutually beneficial relationships
with our federal and provincial government
and our neighbours.
I will
refocus our
efforts on realizing
our City's vision, as outlined in
CityPlan:
- St. Albert is an inclusive, family-oriented
community
that values
its natural,
cultural, historical
and recreational amenities. Our
community secures the safety and
well-being of its people through
controlled growth, innovation and
dynamic leadership.
I will ensure
timely decision-making
guided by our shared values of environmental
and fiscal responsibility. I will
work to maintain our sense of community
as St. Albert grows.
I will ensure the
needs of our established neighbourhoods
are recognized. With my strong leadership,
we will regain that vital pride.
My commitment
to CityPlan
is longstanding.
Before being elected
to Council, I was
proud to be a member
of the CityPlan Advisory
Committee - a volunteer committee
of St. Albert residents responsible
for public input into the CityPlan
process. CityPlan was intended to
guide St. Albert's
physical, social
and economic development
to the year 2014.
On May 23, 2000, our last City
Council provided final reading to
Bylaw 4/2000, being a bylaw to adopt
a new Municipal Development Plan.The
nine guiding principles in CityPlan
are:
- Our small-town
atmosphere
and our quality
of community
life are St.
Albert's
strengths.
- We are a community of families.
- St. Albert citizens live full
and active lives.
- St. Albert's
local
government continues
to be responsive,
approachable and an accountable
steward of public funds and trusts.
- The downtown is the traditional
heart of
our community.
- The beauty
of
nature feeds
people's soul,
from natural
areas, such
as Big Lake, Sturgeon
River and river
valley, our parks and trails, to
the tree-lined streets and boulevards.
- Red Willow
Park
is the community's
gift to
future generations
and as such
continues to grow and unify our
neighbourhoods.
- St. Albert needs a safe, efficient
flow of
traffic while maintaining the serenity
and safety of our neighbourhoods.
- St. Albert encourages clean industry
removed
from residential areas, and small
businesses.
